Invermere, British Columbia
I am a Registered Social Worker in British Columbia, and I also belong to the British Columbia Association of Social Workers. This means I have met the academic requirements to practice social work in this province. I have undergone a criminal record check, and have supplied the board of registration with references attesting to my abilities as a social worker. The social work association provides a Code of Ethics for social work practice, and supports the profession of social work in this province.
I began my working life as a professional forester in British Columbia. I completed a Bachelor of Science in Forestry at the University of British Columbia, and then worked for seven years in varying aspects of the province’s forest industry. I had great experiences in this career, but realized that I wanted to work in a profession that focussed on the well-being of people.
I returned to the University of British Columbia and completed my Bachelor of Social Work. Through this program, I found space to explore working with groups, families and individuals to help people through challenging aspects of their lives. I spent time as an addictions counsellor at an inner-city high school, and in a spinal cord rehabilitation centre in Vancouver. I returned to Invermere where I became a school social worker at the local high school for three years.
I then attended university to pursue further instruction in counselling, and I completed my Masters of Social Work in Vancouver.
This program gave me the opportunity to be part of the kidney transplant program, and the adolescent eating disorders program. I returned to Invermere and worked with the provincial government as a Child and Youth Mental Health Clinician for two years.
In 2010, I expanded my social work practice and opened Bradford Counselling. This is a wonderful opportunity for me to work with both children and adults and assist people in making their lives more enjoyable and fulfilling. Since this time, I have worked with many clients, both residents and visitors, who have made positive and lasting changes in their lives.
